The Economic Contribution of AstraZeneca to the UK and its Regions is a comprehensive overview of the companys impact in the UK and its regions. It offers a hard facts and figures insight into the structure and nature of the business.
The UK is home to AstraZenecas corporate headquarters, major research and development facilities, manufacturing sites and business support functions.
Produced by North West based economic consultancy, Regeneris, www.regeneris.co.uk it is the first time that the companys economic footprint in the UK has been evaluated and detailed in a report.
The publication, released in January 07, demonstrates how AstraZeneca brings investment and creates wealth and employment in the UK.
Key national figures reveal that in 2004 AstraZeneca:
- Supported 37,800 UK jobs in total
- Created £2.5 billion total Gross Valued Added (GVA)
- Invested £749 million in R&D expenditure
- Produced £293 million in UK tax revenues (+ a further £255 million indirectly)
- Bought £593 million of UK-supplied goods and services
- Produced £440 million worth of UK manufacturing output
- Generated £3 billion of direct exports
As well as UK national headlines, the report looks at the specific regions where AstraZeneca has a major presence and scopes out the companys local impact in terms of spending, jobs and economic prosperity. The regions are:
- North West
- East Midlands
- South West
- East of England
The study also outlines AstraZenecas financial and business support to developing a strong UK science base and work to ensure high corporate responsibility standards.
The 50 page publication will not be published annually; rather the information may be refreshed every few years. The data is based on the last full financial year that was available when the report was compiled.
